During the last 15 years, reining has skyrocketed onto the world stage, thanks to its presence in the World Equestrian Games. I was fortunate to attend the 2010 WEG in Lexington, Kentucky, at the incredible Kentucky Horse Park, where Tom McCutcheon and Gunners Special Nite and his Team USA partners swept the individual and team competitions.
This weekend, I’ll be in Lexington once again, this time covering the Kentucky Reining Cup and the selection of the USA Reining Team for the 2014 WEG. Top riders such as Andrea Fappani, Shawn Flarida, Jordan Larson, Tom McCutcheon, and Tim McQuay have prepared their aged reiners for the two-round event with the hopes of representing the United States in Normandy this August.
I’ll also cover the Freestyle Reining World Championship on Saturday night, where spectators are sure to see performances that rival this memorable one by Pete Kyle at the 2010 WEG.
Thanks to our sponsor, Soft-Ride Equine Comfort Boots, even if you’re not in Kentucky, you’ll have full coverage of the event. Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (HorseandRiderMag) to experience the event from your electronic device, no matter where you are, all weekend long.
