The Meigs County Team Roping Association — known amongst friends as the MCTRA — consists of a group of about 10 team ropers in Meigs County, Ohio, who practice twice a week, after a long day’s work, at Karr Farms. Just a group of friends who’ve enjoyed roping together for years, the MCTRA will be sending three ropers to the United States Team Roping Championship’s National Finals, where the USTRC will pay out $4 million in prize money and awards.
Back before I was the assistant editor here, the MCTRA offered me a job that I couldn’t pass up. I became the official marketing director for their group, which meant I took their pictures, sent them to WalMart to print, and gave them out at the next practice. It was at Karr Farms where my barrel horses learned that ropes and cattle were not there to rip them apart, limb by limb, and where one of them even learned that she loved to chase cattle (strictly on the heading side, though, heels are scary and the heel box is even scarier).
So, before the guys head out to Oklahoma, I wanted to make sure I get their names and pictures out there. If you’re heading to the finals or watching online, be sure to root for these guys!
