Tie-Breaker

The amateur reining finals at the AQHA World Show kept spectators on the edges of their seats–particularly the two horses that tied for first place. Carrie Von Uhlit (lower photo), riding Ricochet San, and Samantha Griffin (upper photo), riding Dun Playin Tag, each marked a 221 in the round, beating the next-best placewinner by 4.5 points.

In the runoff, both young women rode aggressively, and their horses showed immense skill and heart–each pair beat their initial score. In the end, Von Uhlit and Ricochet San took the gold trophy, marking 225.5 points. Griffin earned the reserve title with a 223.5.

A side note: the name Dun Playin Tag might ring a bell with reining fans. Pro Duane Latimer rode the horse to earn a bronze medal in the individual reining competition at the World Equestrian Games earlier this year.
