Ever dream of riding in saguaro deserts through land laced in history? Head to the OK Corral at Apache Junction, Ariz. Located next to the mysterious and beautiful Superstition Mountains, the OK Corral provides one-hour to all-day rides and overnight pack trips.
The area takes you back to Old West days. Owners Ron and Jayne Feldman are experts in local history. Ron co-authored Zig Zag Canyon on the legend of Gold Gulch. He also wrote Crooked Mountain, a historical novel that explores the legend of the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine, which has never been found.
OK Corral offers rides through the natural splendor of the Superstition Wilderness, cactus forests, Weavers Needle, Blacktop Mountain, and Charlebois Canyon. All-day rides include a picnic lunch. Overnight pack trips range from one night to several nights. The corrals specialty trip is a three-day ride through the Superstition Wilderness to Apache Junction.
Hungry for good old-fashioned grub? Latch onto the corrals dinner ride; after a 1½ hour trail ride, youll dig into cowboy steaks with all the fixings.
Guests and avid horsemen Howard and Ann Hargis of Texas rode into the nearby ghost town of Goldfield. While there, a tourist asked Howard where he rode his horse from. He replied, “Well maam, I rode im from Texas!”
