Debbie Crafton added another major National Reined Cow Horse Association title to her résumé in early 2026, winning the Tres Osos Derby Non Pro Championship aboard SJR Sumkinda Mist with a composite score of 656.5.
The Ordway, Colorado, non-pro marked a 219.5 in the herd, 217.5 in the rein work and 219.5 down the fence to earn $10,000 and secure the first major event win for the 5-year-old mare known as “Fancy.”
Already an NRCHA Million Dollar Rider, Crafton has built much of her success aboard San Juan Ranch horses. Fancy represents the latest winner out of late broodmare Sumkinda Pinkcadillac—the dam of Crafton’s $130K+ earning horse SJR Sumkinda Rockstar.

Another Standout From Sumkinda Pinkcadillac
Fancy and SRJ Cadilac Mist—shown by Matt Koch—represent the mare’s final foal crops, adding significance to the Tres Osos win.
“The pinkcadillac horses, they’re very willing and they’re good partners,” Crafton said. “They always want to be on your side. They’re looking to please you and are just exceptionally nice horses to have around.”
That disposition has translated into day-to-day reliability as well, with Fancy being one of the first horses Crafton pulls out to ride bareback or pony barn mates.
Fence Work Delivers the Title
While the Tres Osos Derby marks Fancy’s first major victory, the mare has been trending forward. She was reserve at the Hackamore Classic last year and, according to Crafton, has matured steadily with time.
Like her brother Rockstar, Fancy developed later mentally in the show pen.
“They’re happy to go in there and do it, but maybe just not real serious about, ‘Hey, we need to do our job right now,’” Crafton said.
In the finals, Crafton credited the fence work — a 219.5 — as the difference-maker. When a large spotted cow entered the arena, she trusted the mare’s strengths.
“That mare feeds — the faster we go, the better she likes it,” Crafton said.
Fancy responded with two strong turns and a clean finish that secured the composite win.
Positioned for a Strong Derby Season
Now 5, the mare appears to be hitting her stride at the right time in her derby year. Crafton reported increased confidence across all three phases, particularly after recent adjustments in the fence work.
“She’s absolutely a beautiful individual… good-boned, strong, deep through the heart girth, big hip and extremely physical,” Crafton said. “And really great-minded — never says no.”
Crafton also indicated the mare has long-term broodmare potential as she continues expanding her program around proven performers.
With momentum from Tres Osos, the pair now turns toward the remainder of the premier event season. They’re advancing to the Non Pro Hackamore Finals at the Celebration of Champions before looking West.
“Now we’ve got it together,” Crafton said. “Now we’re ready to go to Stallion Stakes and have derby on.”
