Reiners Shine at the 2025 All-American Quarter Horse Congress

Record entries, thrilling tiebreakers, and major payouts defined this year’s reining competition at Congress.

The 2025 All-American Quarter Horse Congress saw record-breaking participation in the reining classes with some over the highest entries of the entire show, including more than 170 entries in the NRHA Open Reining L4 Futurity. More than $600,000 awarded across all divisions and classes, marking a historical turning point for reining at the Congress

All Star Reining Stakes L4 Open Futurity/NRHA Open Reining L4 Futurity

Gunners Smokin Chex (Colonels Smoking Gun x Chexanicki) delivered a standout performance for Clark Reining Horses LLC, earning a $100,000 payday after winning both the NRHA L4 Open Reining Futurity and the All Star Reining Stakes L4 Open Futurity. With NRHA $9 Million Rider Andrea Fappani piloting the 2022 stallion, the duo edged out the competition with a score of 230, setting a commanding lead. Casey Deary and Belissimo’s (Magnum Chic Dream x Americasnextgunmodel) 226.5 held for second place.

Competition was fierce in the NRHA Open Reining and All Star Reining Stakes L4 Open Derby, where a three-way tie topped the leaderboard. Benjamin Beckett aboard Custom Made Whizkey (Whizkey N Diamonds x Customized My Gun), Cade McCutcheon on Varsity Blu (Wimpy Chic x Flo N Blu Boon), and Kole Price riding Swooon (Spooks Gotta Whiz x Sheza Smart Wimpy) each marked a 225 to share the win and take home a combined $10,430.46 payday.

Kelsey Price piloted Slimm Shadyy (Spooks Gotta Whiz x Platinum Magnum) to victory in both the All Star Reining Stakes L4 Non-Pro Futurity and the NRHA Non-Pro Reining L4 Stakes. The 2022 gelding, owned by her husband Kole Price, earned a 222 and collected more than $29,000 along with the coveted Congress bronzes.

Lexi McCutcheon topped the All Star Reining Stakes L4 Non-Pro Derby and the NRHA Non-Pro Reining aboard Disco Ball (Smart And Shiney x Party Nite), a 2020 mare owned by her in-laws, Tom and Mandy McCutcheon. Their 220.5 score earned a combined $13,247.14.
