Clayton Edsall Tops SRCHA Pre-Futurity Riding RBS Anniesugardaddy, Earning $21K

Clayton Edsall and RBS Anniesugardaddy claimed one of the earliest reined cow horse futurity wins of the season—taking a black steer down the fence even after he was whistled off of it.

Clayton Edsall and RBS Anniesugardaddy earned the 2026 SRCHA Pre-Futurity Open Championship with a stout composite score of 667 (221.5 herd, 224 rein, 221.5 cow) to win $21,167 for owner Monty “Paul” and Carlee Miller.

The Rocking BS Ranch-bred gelding, known as “Cy,” is sired by Annies Smart Cat and out of Kit Kat Sugar mare Smart Sugar Kitty. Edsall also tied for No. 3 riding Thorsport’s Reyzd Tuff, earning a composite of 655.5 and winning $11,976.

The Performance Report had a chance to walk back to Edsall’s stalls with him after the win and hear about RBS Anniesugardaddy.

PR: “How long have you you RBS Anniesugardaddy in your program?”

Edsall: “[The Millers] bought him as a yearling and we started him, so we’ve had him for two years now. Rocking BS Ranch raised him, and they have a get-together before the NSHA Show in Vegas, and I think we brought him home from Vegas.”

PR: Tell us about this horse as an individual.

“Extremely easy. He’s the first Annies Smart Cat I’ve had. He just wakes up every day and likes to do his job. He has a ton of stop, ton of cow, turns good, lopes good.”

PR: Walk us through your reining and fence run.

“Rein work, he was a 224. I didn’t run him that hard. He lopes his circles really good, he’s very attractive in the pen. I ran him to his stops, and he turns good, so I wasn’t trying to be [a 224] but it just kind of worked out.”

“I told myself to go down there and try to mark a 216. A businessman run. When they blew me off that cow, I was thinking, ‘This ain’t a bad cow.’ And I didn’t want to risk getting another [cow] and drawing one that ran me over.”

PR: They added a $100,000 to this futurity—why is it a must-stop for you?

“I try to come every year. We live in Weatherford so I get to drive back-and-forth. Come in, school, drive home and work horses. It’s long hours, but it’s convenient.”

PR: What’s your plan for maintaining and advancing Cy from now until the Snaffle Bit Futurity?

“I think going forward, he’s a smart horse, so we make it about the cow. We won’t do a lot different, I’ll just show him the pattern. He can do all the pieces, so it’s just keeping him interested.”
