Rollz Eh knew just what she needed to do when she walked into the South Point Arena on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026. Austin Shepard and the 2021 mare laid down a 231 to win the Cutting Horse Challenge at the 2026 The Run For A Million. The pair took home the championship and $55,000 for owner Billy Wolf.
A Legendary Turn Around the Pen
When an $11.8 million rider and the 2025 NCHA Horse of the Year, an earner of more than $750,000, walk into the cutting pen, everyone watches a little closer. Shepard and Rollz Eh (Rollz Royce x This Cats Smilen) did not disappoint.
The team put down the highest score of the evening, taking a seven-point lead over the rest of the field.
“It’s just incredible,” Shepard said. “In the cutting we have 15 of the best horses in the world and 15 of the best riders in the world. So, to come out on top is pretty special.”
Shepard is no stranger to The Run For A Million. In 2024, the Summerdale, Alabama, rider won the Cutting Challenge aboard Billy Wolf’s standout mare, Kittennish (Hottish x Show Biz Kitty). But it takes a special performance to win in a field filled with champions.
Everything came together for Shepard and Rollz Eh when they walked into the pen, with the cattle they were hoping for easy to find. The South Point Arena crowd supported the pair through every cut, and when the 231 was announced, the arena erupted.
“It’s incredible to walk out to that kind of score,” Shepard said. “The crowd supporting this was really, really cool. People have so many nice things to say, it’s just a feel-good moment. I’m just happy that everybody got to see her at her best on such a huge stage.”
For Shepard, the mare holds a special place in his heart.
“These horses, they’re part of her family,” he explained. “She’s like one of our kids. So, for everybody to come up and tell you how much they love her, it’s like them telling you they love your kid.”
Shepard’s son, Cade, also competed in the Cutting Horse Challenge, earning $11,500 with Melissa Lyons’ 2018 mare Stylin Nu Kitty (Docs Stylish Oak x Special Nu Kitty).
A Horse With a Will to Win
Rollz Eh’s talent is obvious, but Shepard pointed to another quality that separates the mare from the rest.
“She’s got a lot of physical and mental characteristics that are really cool, but what sets her apart is just her will to win,” he said. “She loves it, and you don’t get many horses that want to win as much as you do, but she does.”
That competitive drive has been evident since the beginning of Rollz Eh’s career. She made an immediate impression with a second-place finish in the NCHA Open Futurity, setting the stage for the successful career that followed.
Since then, the 2016 mare has continued to build an impressive résumé, earning more than $750,000 and being named the 2025 NCHA Horse of the Year before arriving in Las Vegas.
