Market Report: Day 1

By Jennifer Paulson

It’s mostly a day for setting up at the Western and English Sales Association Market. That means we editors get to ease into the mad rush of the rest of the weekend.

One of the best parts of Market might be the boot shines.

We started the day with a meeting with our sales team to discuss projects we’re working on (big stuff is coming), social-media programs (more excitement), and what the magazine will offer for the rest of 2014 (so many great things).

After a quick lunch, we made our way to the Denver Mart building to start our marathon Or is it a series of many, many sprints? Either way, it was imperative to get the obligatory boot shine. These ladies work miracles on boots all day long, every day of the Market.

After a little shopping, we made a few visits to showrooms and did a little investigating. The biggest news we found came from the Miller International showrooms?the makers of Cruel Girl, Cinch, Miller Ranch, Southern Threads, Rod Patrick, and many more Western brands. For 2014, they’ll add a line of kids’ boots, adult work wear, and athletic wear. They’ve also added a new brand to their posse: Gypsy Soule, the rock-and-roll-meets-funky-cowgirl line, known for its blingy footwear, girl-power apparel, and edgy jewelry.

Look for more tomorrow, both here and on our Instagram (HorseandRiderMag), as we share photos and trends from the hottest place in the Western industry for the next four days. We’re excited to share what we see and hear what you think about the things we show you!
