This past weekend, I attended theRocky Mountain Reining Horse Association’s Summer Slide.
This show is a ton of fun to visit, and it’s held in downtown Denver?so it’s right inH&R‘s backyard.
Of all the shows I’ve been to, I always have the most fun at the Summer Slide. There’s a real sense of camaraderie among the exhibitors, and you can tell that everyone’s having a good time.
This camaraderie is really notable during theexhibitor dinnerthat the local farriers put on in appreciation for those who support them during the year. From Zane Haverty serving up desert to the riders sitting down to eat and chat, the dinner is a great way for everyone at the show to wind down after a full week.
What makes the show even more enjoyable is knowing some of the exhibitors and meeting new people.
It was nice to catch up withSteve Schwartzenberger, who I had the pleasure of meeting at a recentphoto shoot, and cheering him on in the open futurity finals.
It was also great to cheer on my trainer and her clients when they were in the show pen.
I also had the pleasure of meetingJordan Larson, and talking with him abouthow he keeps his horses healthy while traveling in the summerandwhy he opts for salt-water therapy.
Jordan’s training and health regimen are definitely working for him. He walked away with second and third place in the open futurity finals!
The icing on the cake, though, came in the very last class on Sunday afternoon. A friend, riding Slick (the horse I ride in lessons), got a personal-best score of 138.
All in all, I had a great time at the show.
