The 31 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Open finalists have been determined, and the team at the Performance Report by Horse&Rider dug into their lineage to see what some of the best young cow horses have in their blood.
These horses may be 3 years old, but their pedigrees reveal decades of careful breeding decisions to bring out the best qualities in the modern reined cow horses.
The 31 Snaffle Bit Futurity Open finalists represented 13 different sires.

The Open Prelim Leader
Rebel De Rosa, piloted by the RA Brown Ranch’s Lanham Brown, topped the Open preliminaries with a 662 composite (H: 220.5 / R: 219.5 / C: 222). Stella Swanson bred him, he is by Metallic Rebel and out of Rosa Del Pepto (by One Time Pepto)
Metallic Rebel had one other finalist. Rebels Gun, a mare ridden by Brady Weaver, is out of SJR Reygun (by Dual Rey).
Stevie Rey Von Sires the Most Finalists
Stevie Rey Von sired seven finalists, more than any other stallion. Four of them placed in the top five.
2. Von A Gun: stallion, out of Gunna Be A Smartie, by Very Smart Remedy. Ridden by Shane Steffen, owned and bred by Kandu Ranch.
3. Reypublican: stallion, out of One Time Silver Girl, by Blue One Time. Ridden by Boyd Rice, owned by B-K Livestock LLC, bred by Southern Ranches.
3. Tamia: mare, out of Starstruck Ichi, by Cat Ichi. Ridden by Justin Wright, owned by Shane Turner, bred by Patrick Fitzgerald.
5. Dreamy Rey Von: mare, out of Honky Tonkin Dream, by Magnum Chic Dream. Ridden by Jordan Williams, owned by William Guy Crutchfield, bred by Roger Saur.
Stevie Rey Von’s other three finalists were Lillies Of The Field, Good Bad Habit and Vudu Chic. Each of Stevie Rey Von’s seven finalists had a different dam sire.

Four stallions had one finalist each: Annies Smart Cat, Here Comes The Boon, Scooter Kat and Metallic Wizard.
Metallic Cat Appears Most Often as a Dam Sire
Six finalists are out of Metallic Cat mares: Lillies Of The Field, One Metallic Kitty, Not Yo Cash, Scooter Miss, Reyz Little Peppy and Tuff Like A Lion.
He also sired three finalists: Armor Hank, Duke Of Hazard and Puttin On The Rizz. He appears on either the top or bottom side of nine pedigrees.
- Dual Rey is the dam sire of five finalists: RBS Boonsheba, Rebels Gun, Armor Hank, Biggg Chief and Puttin On The Rizz.
- One Time Pepto is the dam sire of three, including the prelim leader Rebel De Rosa. The other two are Talkin Desires and Won Hundred Proof.
- Peptoboonsmal is the dam sire of two, Tuff Man and HSR Arizona. Both are sired by Woody Be Tuff.
- Once In A Blu Boon sired three finalists and is the dam sire of a fourth, Boons Shiney Nu Cat.
Mare Not Yo Kitty Produces 2 Finalists
One Metallic Kitty (Once In A Blu Boon) and Not Yo Cash (Reyzin The Cash) are both out of Not Yo Kitty, by Metallic Cat. Jon Stangeland and Natalie Larson of She’s The One Ranch bred both.
