Rate or speed control is essential for all horses, but especially reiners in their rundowns. Here’s why rate matters and how to maintain it.

Over time, horses get to know their jobs pretty well, and sooner or later, they’ll start to cut corners on their maneuvers. On a spin series, for example, many veteran performers will dive into the turnaround before they’re cued to do so. With a few simple exercises, you can correct this bad habit.
