ANSWER: B is correct. When American cowboys and their Mexican counterparts, vaqueros, were working the vast cattle ranches that spread over the American Southwest in the 1800s, impromptu riding and roping contests often took place during cattle roundups. “Rodeo,” the Spanish word for roundup, became the name of these competitions, which over time grew into the multi-faceted events we enjoy today.
