1. Clean Stalls

Cleaning your horses stall each day has many benefits. Cleaning stalls is a great bio-security measure that will help guard against disease. A clean stall with fresh bedding will help keep flies away, prevent respiratory issues, and keep your horse’s hooves healthy.

2. Check Water Tanks

Check your horse’s water tank to make sure it isn’t leaking and that the water is clean. Giving your horse an option for clean, fresh water, even if your horse has a natural water source, will help to make sure your horse is staying hydrated. Water is the most important nutrient for your horse and allowing him to have clean water will help aid in the prevention of colic and other health issues.

3. Exercise Your Horse

Your horse needs exercise and standing in a stall or run all day doesn’t let him get the amount of exercise he requires. If your horse isn’t able to spend his day out in the pasture, turn him out or exercise him for a minimum of 30 minutes.

4. Groom/Inspect Your Horse

Grooming not only gives you the opportunity to spend a few extra minutes with your horse, but it allows you to examine him for any new injuries. Even if you don’t have time to groom, allow time for a once over to make sure he is acting normal and doesn’t have any bumps or scrapes.
