BUYER SAVVY
When you select gear for summer riding, choose light colors and breathable fabrics to ensure that you can stay cool all day. Here are other features to look for.
Moisture-wicking. Choose clothing that’s specifically designed to pull moisture from the skin to the exterior of the fabric. Moisture-wicking shirts, pants, sports bras, and even socks will reduce the sticky, wet feeling, and also decrease the likelihood of blisters.
Sun protection. Look for items that advertise high UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) ratings. Fabrics such as polyester and nylon also are effective to protect against damaging UV rays.
Ventilation. Built-in ventilation such as mesh or crochet/knit patterns, or cut-outs in a helmet, shirt, hat, gloves, or riding pants will enhance airflow to dry sweat and maintain a lower body temperature.
