Weanling Care, Bot Kill, Rodent Watch

Baby shots: Weanlings are no longer protected by the antibodies in their dams’ milk. Check with your vet regarding vaccinations that may now be due.

Bot treatment: Right after the first killing frost is the ideal time to treat your horse with a deworming product containing ivermectin or moxidectin to kill bot-fly larvae in his system. (For deworming help, search that word at HorseandRider.com.)

Mouse patrol: Set out traps to protect your feeds from rodents, which love to come “inside” in cold weather and set up housekeeping near a ready source of food.
