NRCHA $2 Million Rider Sarah Dawson guided Recklesss (One Time Royalty x Shine Smarter), a 2022 mare owned by Tres Osos Performance Horses, to her first major title at the National Stock Horse Association Vegas Show. The duo marked a 653.5 composite score, good for the championship and a $36,000 check.
Heading into the fence work, Dawson and Recklesss were sitting mid-pack with a 433 composite—behind leaders Shadd Parkinson aboard Thundr Strukk (Metallic Cat x Lightening Strike) and Justin Wright on Black Atcha (WR This Cats Smart x Reys Stressin Melody), both tied at 436.5. But Dawson and her mare delivered under pressure, posting a dynamic 220.5 down the fence to clinch the win.
Recklesss is the daughter of Dawson’s standout mare Shine Smarter (WR This Cats Smart x Shiney Tari), owned by Linda Mars. Shine Smarter carried Dawson to her first NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Finals and multiple major event wins, and now her daughter is showing the same promise.
“I owe everything to that mare [Shine Smarter] as far as getting the opportunity to ride the horses I have today,” Dawson said.
If history is any indication, Recklesss will be one to watch as futurity season unfolds.
