Gabriel Borges and Spooks Gotta Ice made their mark at the 2025 100X Tulsa Reining Classic, clinching the Open L4 4-year-old Stakes with a commanding 229.5. The win not only secured the championship but also added $91,168.44 to the 2021 stallion’s record, pushing his lifetime earnings past the $100,000 ($29,624 reported by QData, plus the $91,168.44 winning check) milestone for owner Kathy Page.
Heading into the final round, Borges and “Ice” (SG Frozen Enterprize x Spooks Gotta Lady) knew the pressure was on. As draw 20, they watched superstar 4-year-olds post strong scores, including I Got Ur Back (Colonels Shining Gun x A Shining Sidekick) ridden by Jason Vanlandingham, who briefly held the lead. With several heavy hitters still to come, Borges and Ice needed a run that left no doubt.
They delivered. Marking a 229.5, the pair surged to the top of the leaderboard and held strong as the remaining five entries made bid for their entries. That lot included 2024 NRHA Futurity winners Kaci O’Rourke and The Fireman (Inferno Sixty Six x Redhot Walla), who ultimately finished third in the class.
The Stakes: Built for Growth
The 100X Stakes is an exclusive showcase for 4-year-olds, created to give stallion owners extended opportunities for their offspring to compete while fostering industry growth. By spotlighting horses beyond their 3-year-old season, the event has quickly become a proving ground for future stars.
For Borges, this win is familiar territory. In 2023, he piloted 007, aka “Bond,” to the 100X Open 4-year-old Stakes title, helping to launch the young stallion’s career. At this year’s event, Bond shined again—this time under NRHA Eight Million Dollar Rider Andrea Fappani, who guided him to the Open Derby win and another $17,661.15 in lifetime earnings.

‘Ice’ is on Fire
Spooks Gotta Ice has quickly emerged as one of the sport’s most exciting young horses. The 2020 maternal grandson of Spooks Gotta Whiz first arrived in Borges’ barn last year after making the journey from Brazil. The duo debuted at the NRHA Open Futurity, where they marked a 217.5, showing early flashes of potential.
Since then, Borges and Ice have only improved. They’ve collected checks at major shows like the Oklahoma Ride and Slide and the NRHA Derby, sharpening their teamwork with every run. The Tulsa victory, however, marks a turning point—proof that the pair can rise above a stacked field and hold their own against the best in the industry.
With Ice’s lifetime earnings now showing six figures and Borges adding another major title to his résumé, the pair’s trajectory is unmistakable. If this win is any indication, Spooks Gotta Ice and Gabriel Borges are only just beginning to heat up.
