New Slide Off Event with $100,000 Prize to Debut at 2024 NRHA Futurity, Honoring Military Veterans

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) is thrilled to announce an exciting addition to the 2024 NRHA Futurity & Adequan North American Affiliate Championships. Set to take place in the iconic Jim Norick Arena on Dec. 4, The inaugural Futurity and Military Slides will offer a $100,000 prize, feature traditional Charreada riders, and will highlight a section dedicated solely to military veterans.

The sliding stop is one of the most exciting parts of a reining pattern. Now riders will have a chance to win $100,000 in a new slide-off competition featured at the 2024 NRHA Futurity.

Honoring Our Veterans

The event is made possible through a collaboration with the Two Ravens Foundation, whose mission aligns perfectly with NRHA’s goal to honor and support our nation’s heroes. The Two Ravens Foundation provides combat veterans and first responders with transformative experiences built around horsemanship, community, and the Western way of life. Helping them find reflection, growth, and empowerment through the power of horses.

“As our owned events continue to grow, we are always looking ahead for new opportunities to engage our members and excite our fans, and this was a no-brainer,” said NRHA Commissioner Billy Smith. Smith, whose son is a combat war veteran, made it a point to have a special military section for the Slide.

“NRHA and our reining community are incredibly grateful for the sacrifices our veterans have made and we wanted to make sure to recognize and honor them during the Futurity,” Smith continued. “Thank you to our executive committee, board of directors, staff, and the Two Ravens Foundation for helping make this possible. This is just the first year and I know the event will continue to grow in the future.”

Open to All Horses and Riders

The Futurity Slide is open to all, with no NRHA membership or licensing requirements. Though it will be an unapproved class—meaning earnings won’t count toward NRHA Lifetime Earnings (LTE). Judges will score on a 3-point system, starting at 70, focusing on elements like the approach, stop, and hesitation.

Entries are limited and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For detailed event conditions and additional information, visit nrha.com.
