#AskAnnie–Episode 67: Dr. Hoyt Cheramie, Boehringer Ingelheim

Meet Dr. Hoyt Cheramie

Dr. Hoyt Cheramie is the Professional Services Veterinarian at Boehringer Ingelheim and a world-renowned expert on Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome. He received both his bachelor’s and doctorate in veterinary medicine degrees from Louisiana State University in the early 90s. After graduating he practiced large animal surgery throughout the country from 1999 through 2007. He then began his professional consulting and technical support career with Merial. When Merial acquired Boehringer Ingelheim in 2017, Dr. Cheramie made the transition as well. He has been with BI ever since. In this episode, we discuss what it takes to bring a new horse medication to market. We discuss testing, FDA approval, and more! Plus, Dr. Cheramie explains the difference between a pioneer drug, a compounded drug, and a generic drug. We discuss how these different types of drugs may be used by veterinarians and horse owners.

This episode is brought to you by Boehringer Ingelheim.
