Correcting Going Past the First Barrel
Break your horse's habit of going past the first barrel with help from Molly Powell.

Watch Now!

Molly explains the reason your horse has learned to go past the first barrel could be habit or rider related, and suggests being patient during training—the longer your horse has had this habit, the longer it’s going to take to correct it. She also stresses that there’s no quick fix and that you should avoid using a strong bit to begin with because it can cause other problems to rise to the surface. Instead, improve the timing of your cues and your body position to help him learn how to turn around the first barrel properly.
