A Few of Our Favorite Things

Here at H&R, we’re getting into the holiday spirit.

For many people, the holidays bring to mind childhood memories. That got us thinking about some of our favorite horse toys growing up.

We thought we’d share those memories with you.

Editor/Associate Publisher Juli Thorson
I can’t say that I had a favorite horse toy as a child, because I was fortunate to have a real pony to play with instead. His name was Buttermilk and he provided endless hours of entertainment for my three brothers and me. We rode him on trails, taught him to run barrels, dressed him in costumes for backyard plays, and shared him with our cousins.

Senior Editor Jennifer Forsberg Meyer
My sisters and I had a whole herd of Breyer model horses?at least two dozen in all. My favorite was my rearing Appaloosa stallion…he used to engage in carefully staged fights (no broken legs!) with my sister Caroline’s rearing Palomino stallion. Those were the days!

Managing Editor Jennifer Paulson
I admit it: I was a Barbie girl. So Barbie’s horse Dallas played an integral role in all of Barbie’s adventures?even though I never could get ol’ Barbie to actually sit in the Western saddle. Then Dallas’ foal Dixie came along, and that only added to the fun.

Assistant Editor Julie Preble
Growing up, I had Carousel-type rocking horse. When I wasn’t riding it for hours on end, I’d tie jump ropes to the handlebars and pretend I was part of a wagon train, headed west!

Editorial Intern Laura Downey
My absolute favorite horse toy growing up was a spring rocking horse. He was a beautiful bay plastic springing horse that I played with every day. I used to pretend he was my real horse and every night would put him to sleep with a blanket on his back in case he got cold!

A Special Surprise
H&R teamed up with Breyer to bring you a special holiday contest!

Breyer just released the Traditional Series Dually Truck and Two-Horse Trailer (product information below), and we thought one lucky reader might like to have the set as an extra holiday gift (or you can always keep it for yourself!).

Traditional Series Dually Truck
This well-detailed truck replicates the most popular shipping vehicle on the road, a dually (for dual-wheeled). Sharp and stylish in burgundy with silver trim, it hitches to the matching two-horse tag-along trailer in a snap! Features rolling, rubber-like wheels and front wheels that turn with the steering wheel. Includes two rear-view mirrors, a working hood, working tailgate, and working hitch. The truck has working doors, seats two passengers, and fits loads of gear in the bed!

Traditional Series Two-Horse Trailer
Ship model horses in the epitome of style! This authentically detailed trailer, in white with silver trim to match the dually truck, is a perfect fit for Breyer Traditional Series horses. It replicates a real two-horse trailer with stalls separated by a divider, padded rear chains, two back doors with Dutch openings, four working tires, a side door, a textured ramp that opens fully, and a hitch.
