In the Ring with Hannah and Andee

Last week we met Hannah Riel and her mare Andee. This week read to find out more about Hannah’s riding and how she got into barrel racing.

What made you want to start barrel racing?

I did English pleasure when I was younger and I got very bored with it. I always watched the barrel racers at the 4H shows and thought it looked like so much fun!

Hannah and Andee.

What is your horse’s running style?
Andee is a hard runner. She runs her heart out every run. She is not push-button though; she is always waiting for me to give her the next cue.

What is your greatest accomplishment thus far in your career?
My greatest accomplishment thus far would have to be making it to National Finals last year; or being 5th in Ohio in the youth 1D and 6th in open 1D.

Do you have any superstitions or rituals before entering the show ring?

I always stretch out her legs before I run.?Also, I have a superstition that some of my polo wraps are lucky, and I run in them for certain classes.

What do you and your horse do for fun?
We do a lot of trail rides. It’s always nice to get out of the arena and just go for a long ride somewhere other than in a circle.
