The Kindness of a Stranger

Oftentimes, I’m reminded just how much horse people truly are the best sort of people.

While walking my dog, I was approached by a lady who wanted to pet him. As it turned out, her dog had recently died, and she simply wanted to have some “doggie” time.

This struck up a conversation about animals, and, as usually happens when I’m on that topic, I started talking about horses as well.

Not only is my new friend a dog person, she is an avid horseperson as well.

She has friends with horses in the area, and I’ve already been invited to go riding!

This invitation couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve been forlorn lately about my lack of horse outlets in Colorado, and I’ve found myself perusing Equine.com, dreaming of the day when I’m ready to buy a horse.

Thankfully the opportunities to be near my favorite animals are coming more frequently now. Last weekend I went to the Summer Slide in Denver, and this weekend I’m traveling to Parker, Colorado, to help a friend at a Dressage show.

With this recent riding invitation, I really feel like my forlorn days are behind me – all because of the kindness of a stranger.

I’ve always felt that no matter where you go or what you’re doing, you will always find a friend in a fellow horseperson. Do you agree?
